A History of Alan Price

Born in Fatfield County Durham 19th.April 1942 son of John George Price(known as Jerry) and Elizabeth Price n'ee Gowens (known as Lily).
After the death of his father in an industrial accident, he moved in 1947 with his
mother and elder brother John on a horse and cart and with few possesions to their maternal grandmother's house, Granny (Margaret) Gowens, in Jarrow.
All three, Lily, John and Alan lived in the front room at 21 Grange Road West(now demolished).
Also in residence in the front room was an upright piano, more of which later.
On hearing of the young family's plight the local Jarrow Baptist Church despatched
a mentor to the Gowens home and the two Price boys became members of the congregation and attended Sunday School.John Price was eventually baptised there
and became the Choir Master. He married a member of the church Ann Heywood and
they had a son Graeme who was christened at the church.
Alan attended the Ellison Street Primary School which was a Church of England School and consequently was selected to join the choir at Christ Church, Jarrow. (tbc)
